Zenia Olesnyckyj: Impressions of Alaska
The Gallery at The Summit Free Public Library
May 1–June 30, 2026
Sisters, 2023, Photograph, 16 x 20 inches
Impressions of Alaska brings together photographs, embroideries, and collages inspired by artist Zenia Olesnyckyj’s journey through the southern coast of Alaska. Immersed in the colors, textures, and complexities of landscapes carved over millennia, Olesnyckyj’s work explores the joy of discovery and a deep sense of wonder. In addition to her landscape photography, she also draws inspiration from the culture and intricate artwork of the Tlingit, the indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest Coast. She weaves this influence into the mixed media artworks on display. Together, the works in this exhibition speak to Olesnyckyj’s reimagined relationship with the natural world.
Born in the Bronx, Zenia Olesnyckyj is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Northern New Jersey. She holds a B.A. in Fine Arts Education and an M.A. in Printmaking from Montclair State University. She spent the first part of her career as an art educator before transitioning to accounting. Now retired, she dedicates herself fully to her artistic practice, embracing diverse media including photography, collage, hand embroidery, printmaking, painting, and metalsmithing. Olesnyckyj has participated in numerous exhibitions, including the Nevada Fine Arts 4×4 Show in Reno, NV, the Merck Juried Art Show in Rahway, NJ, and the Union County Senior Art Show in Scotch Plains, NJ, where she won a 3rd-place award in photography.
