7750 Linoleum Block Printing

Learn relief printing from start to finish. Through instructor demonstration and hands-on experience, students design, cut, and print a linoleum block print. We cover troubleshooting and fixing common printmaking problems, as well as creating finished proofs and editions.

7749 Jewelry Wax Carving
Instructor: Jeannette Mullarkey
This two-session workshop focuses on teaching the techniques of creating jewelry using wax carving and construction methods. Wax allows the artist to create very fluid, intricate, detailed, and sculpturally exciting work. Once the model is completed, it will be cast into brass, silver, or gold. Students may also mold it to create multiples. Depending on the design, students will be shown different finishing options such as soldering, stone setting, and polishing. The instructor will work individually with each student to discuss and plan the creation of their piece.

7748 The Wonders of Fluid Painting: Acrylic Pouring

Have you ever wanted to try a non-traditional art process of painting? In this one-day workshop, students will learn to create dazzling abstract art using the acrylic pouring process. Students will explore the fluidity of the paints that allow movement, variation of patterns, and evolvement of colors. The process is unique, fun, creative, and meditative.

Let your imagination come to life for this one-of-a-kind workshop. Students will be inspired by the Victorian era to design their own earrings. Students will use a variety of materials such as findings, semi-precious stones and crystals. The instructor will provide examples and instruction on how to create one to four pairs of earrings, while encouraging students to incorporate their own style as well. Students will learn wire wrapping techniques that can be applied to future jewelry making projects.

Explore encaustic, the art of painting with molten beeswax mixed with colored pigments and resin. This unusual medium provides results like no other with mysterious, deep, and translucent colors. Experiment with techniques such as layering, fusing, and incising. Safe handling of materials will also be covered. No experience necessary. Some materials included.

7755 NEW! The Art of Collagraph Printmaking
Instructor: Andrea Epstein
Collagraph is a unique process of collaging with a variety of textures and materials to create a plate from which a one-of-a kind print is pulled. In this two-day workshop, students will explore different techniques and skills to create their own collagraph prints. The instructor will provide demonstrations on dried and coated collagraph that can be printed with both intaglio and relief techniques to make striking-graphic images. On the first day, students will create their collagraph utilizing a variety of materials, textures, and glues. On the second day, students will experiment with various inking and printing methods.

Create a blooming watercolor piece in this one-day workshop. The instructor will provide demonstrations on using a three-value sketch and how to use a limited color palette for a particular subject matter. Students are encouraged to bring their own photo references to work from on the day of the workshop and the instructor will also have garden scene options to choose from.

Have you ever wanted to create in clay or try something new? Then, this workshop is for you! This two-day workshop is designed for all students of all levels who want to let their imaginative ideas come to life. Please come with some creative ideas to the workshop. On the first day, students will make 1-3 hand-built pieces in clay. On the second day, students will have the choice to finish their bisque fired pieces with typical glazes provided in the studio OR use safe materials, like mason stains, colored clay bits, dried glaze, grog and other materials to create imaginative pieces. Some of these alternative decorating techniques can be applied on greenware pieces on the first day. Most materials provided. Clay will need to be purchased on the first day of the workshop.

7762 Exploring Slip Decorating
Instructor: Emma Tabachnick
Explore the exciting and colorful world of slips in this one-day workshop! Unlike glazes, slips can be layered and blended to create new colors, define lines, and create tactile textures on the surface of your work. Play with a number of slip decorating techniques including slip trailing, sgraffito, and paper resist. Please bring 6-8 greenware (leather-hard) pieces with you and be ready to have fun adding color, pattern, and
depth to your work! Most materials provided.

7763 NEW! Unique Stone Settings
Instructor: Sue Sachs
Create stunning pieces of wearable art in this one-day workshop! Students will learn how to set stones that are freeform shapes. The instructor will provide a demonstration on setting some stones and bezels from the front or back of the piece. Some atypical prong settings will also be demonstrated. Having metal working experience is recommended, but not required. Copper and brass will be supplied but students need to either bring their own stones on the day of the workshop or purchase stones that day. Students who want to work in silver must bring their own 22-gauge sterling sheet and fine silver bezel wire.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner! Join us in this exciting workshop where we will paint and bedazzle a canvas to celebrate Mother’s Day! Students will paint an image of their choice (a flower) on canvas and then add gemstones, buttons, beads, and more. This workshop is designed for students who are 21 years old and older. Wine will be provided for students to share and sip. Students are welcome to bring a snack of their choice to have during the workshop.

Weave a scarf, table runner, or wall piece in this special weekend workshop. Learn the basics of weaving on a tabletop four-harness loom with FIT Textile/Surface Design professor, Ellen Hess. Students will work on four-harness looms and weave the project of their choice.

If you have been curious about trying out mixed media art, this workshop is for you! Create a unique 10×10 inch artwork incorporating a multitude of mixed-media techniques. Techniques will include creating and using handcrafted stamps, making handmade paper from recycled paper for collaging, painting with acrylics, gel printmaking, and more. Finishing techniques will also be covered.

In this one-day workshop, students will take a deep dive into the wonderful world of glazing! The instructor will go over glaze application, glazing techniques, and a number of glaze faults and their causes—and the best way to avoid them. Whether you are someone who loves to glaze and want to expand your knowledge or someone who’s always been a bit intimidated by the process and want to feel more confident in glazing, this is the workshop for you. Impasto painting has the ability to open wonderful new possibilities for visual expression. Paint is applied thickly to raise the brush strokes and palette knife’s markings from the canvas. In this one-day workshop, students will create a small landscape and learn a variety of impasto painting techniques such as texture, color mixing, and 3D composition.
