7501/7514 Jewelry Wax Carving
Instructor: Jeannette Mullarkey
This two-session workshop focuses on teaching the techniques of creating jewelry using wax carving and construction methods. Wax allows the artist to create very fluid, intricate, detailed, and sculpturally exciting work. Once the model is completed, it will be cast into brass, silver, or gold. Students may also mold it to create multiples. Depending on the design, students will be shown different finishing options such as soldering, stone setting, and polishing. The instructor will work individually with each student to discuss and plan the creation of their piece.

This workshop will encourage students to explore expressive brushwork as an additive component to portraiture. Projects will focus on working from direct observation and using active mark making to capture the character of the model. Students will learn about the two fundamental aspects of color: mixing and color interaction.

7503 NEW! Creating Nesting Bowl Sets
Instructor: Emma Tabachnick
Are you looking for a challenge to expand and develop your wheel throwing skills? Enroll in this two session workshop to create a cohesive nesting bowl set! Nesting bowls are a great way to practice throwing with control, making cohesive forms and to make pieces that not only function well, but also, are beautiful. In the first session, students will focus on the throwing part of the process. During the second session, students will dive into trimming, fine-tuning, and maybe a bit of greenware decorating to tie everything together. This workshop is designed for intermediate and advanced pottery students who are comfortable with centering, pulling, and trimming. The materials fee covers the cost of bisque firing and studio usage. Students will need to purchase clay and bring their own wheel throwing supplies the day of the workshop. Also, students can finish their pieces during class time or there are ceramics open studios available during the semester if they wish to register and glaze their pieces once bisque-fired.

Explore encaustic, the art of painting with molten beeswax mixed with colored pigments and resin. This unusual medium provides results like no other with mysterious, deep and translucent colors. Experiment with techniques such as layering, fusing, and incising. Safe handling of materials will also be covered. No experience necessary. Some materials included.

7507 Techniques in Hand-Building with Clay
Instructor: Shelley Rosen Howard
This two-session workshop is for beginners and experienced students who love hand building in clay! During the first session, students will learn how to create one or multiple pieces (1–3), using basic methods of construction in clay. Some building forms examples include using slabs and coils. Students will have the choice of making a functional or sculptural creation. In the second session, students will be provided demonstrations and guidance on how to glaze their finished pieces. Clay will need to be purchased the day of the workshop. The materials fee covers the cost of bisque firing, usage of glazes, and glaze firing.

It’s Galentine’s Day! Join us in this exiting workshop where we will paint and bedazzle a canvas to celebrate Valentine’s/Galentine’s Day! Students will paint an image of their choice (a heart or the word “LOVE”) on canvas and then add gemstones, buttons, beads, and more. This workshop is designed for students who are 21 years old and older. Wine will be provided for students to share and sip. Students are welcomed to bring a snack of their choice to have during the workshop.

7513 NEW! Magnificent Marble Clay
Instructor: Jessica Garber
Make your own unique colored clay body in this one-day workshop! Marble clay is made up of two or more colors of clay that are layered or inlaid. To give the appearance of marbling, the clay can be thrown on the wheel or rolled out in a slab for hand building. White clay, speckled brown clay, and dark brown clay will be used. Students will also learn how to add mason stains to white clay to make their own custom colored clay body. The instructor will provide demonstrations on how to make vases, bowls, and mugs on the pottery wheel. Additionally, the instructor will show how to make a slab draped marble clay centerpiece. Finishing options will also be discussed. This workshop is designed for intermediate and advanced students who have experience working in clay. The materials fee covers the cost of clay, bisque firing, and studio usage. Learn relief printing from start to finish. Through instructor demonstration and hands-on experience, students design, cut, and print a linoleum block print. We cover troubleshooting and fixing common printmaking problems, as well as creating finished proofs and editions.

7518 NEW! Crochet Bootcamp
Instructor: Dawn Noonan
Are you a crochet artist who would like to learn some new stitches and techniques to liven up your practice? Have you started a project with a pattern and got stuck? Enroll in this two-day workshop to learn and practice crocheting in ways beyond the basics. During the first session, students will trouble shoot problems with patterns and be introduced new stitches. Students will have time to practice in the studio with the guidance of the instructor and be encouraged to practice at home. In the second session, students will have time to work as a group and independently to reinforce new learned skills, such as pattern work. Students are welcome to bring a started project, but must bring everything connected with it (yarn, hooks, and printed copy of the pattern). If students are interested in learning new stitches, they can bring their favorite crochet hook, one skein of basic worsted weight (4) yarn and scissors. This workshop is designed for intermediate and advanced students who have experience in crocheting.

Impasto painting has the ability to open wonderful new possibilities for visual expression. Paint is applied thickly to raise the brush strokes and palette knife’s markings from the canvas. In this one-day workshop, students will create a small landscape and learn a variety of impasto painting techniques such as texture, color mixing, and 3D composition.

Welcome to the world of mosaics, where not only is it okay to break things, it’s expected! This intensive workshop will introduce beginners to the basics of mosaic making. Learn about the amazing variety of materials and adhesives, design and composition, cutting and laying out tiles, and the grouting process. Materials such as vitreous glass tile, ceramic tile, stained glass, and China are available for students to explore and incorporate in their work. Students will complete an 8×6-inch mosaic by the day’s end. All materials provided.

Expand your knowledge and skills about glazing in this one-day workshop! The instructor will go over glazing techniques, glaze combinations, and glaze faults in relation to potential food safety concerns. This workshop is for students who are currently enrolled in a ceramic class this semester. The materials fee covers the cost of glazes, firing and studio usage. Please bring 5–10 bisque pieces to glaze. Also, students are welcomed to bring finished pieces they would like to discuss with instructor due to not being happy with the end result. All levels welcome.
