The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey’s Studio School, located in Summit, NJ, offers classes and workshops for artists of all ages and skill levels. Taught by experienced teaching artists, our programs span painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and more—providing a supportive environment for learning, exploration, and creative growth.

8532 Felted Art: Needle Felting in 2D & 3D
Instructor: Martha McDonald
Wednesdays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
Needle felting is a fun fiber technique that is easy to learn and full of possibilities! Through demonstrations and step-by-step instruction, students will transform colorful wool fiber into beautiful tactile felted images and objects. Techniques covered will include how to form basic shapes, layer colors, add details, and more. This class will explore creating landscapes, abstract works, and sculptural 3D pieces. Some project examples include forest animals and succulents. Also, students will be able to incorporate found objects and mixed media into their creations. Students are encouraged to come to class with their own ideas of what they wish to make from felt. Some materials provided.

8537 NEW! Hand Embroidery 101
Instructor: Jacklyn Hummer
Thursdays, 6:30–9 PM
Learn how to make beautiful hand-embroidered embellishments and projects! Students will start with a stitches guide practice book and then put these techniques into action by making a smaller intricate patch. From embellishing clothing by embroidering on various fabrics to making hanging works of art, or appliqued pieces, the possibilities are endless with thread! Students will be encouraged to experiment to create what inspires them while recieving gudiance from the instructor.
