7927/7962 Jewelry Wax Carving
Instructor: Jeannette Mullarkey
This two-session workshop focuses on teaching the techniques of creating jewelry using wax carving and construction methods. Wax allows the artist to create very fluid, intricate, detailed, and sculpturally exciting work. Once the model is completed, it will be cast into brass, silver, or gold. Students may also mold it to create multiples. Depending on the design, students will be shown different finishing options such as soldering, stone setting, and polishing. The instructor will work individually with each student to discuss and plan the creation of their piece.

7928 Weekend Weaving with Ellen Hess
Instructor: Ellen Hess
Weave a scarf, table runner, or wall piece in this special weekend workshop. Learn the basics of weaving on a tabletop four-harness loom with FIT Textile/Surface Design professor, Ellen Hess. Students will work on four-harness looms and weave the project of their choice.

8097 NEW! Magnificent Mugs!
Instructor: Emma Tabachnick
In this two-day wheel throwing workshop, students will dive into one of the most classic ceramic forms: the mug! While mugs are one of the most common ceramic items, they are not always easy to make. From the size, shape, and form to the comfort of the handle, it is not easy to make the perfect mug. Students will hone their skills of throwing, trimming, and pulling handles to create beautiful and unique mugs that are great for themselves or holiday gifts. Some wheel throwing experience is required. Students can sign up for ceramics open studio or use their regular class time to glaze their pieces made in this workshop. Students will also need to buy clay the day of the workshop.

In this one-day workshop, students will be challenged to think abstractly while creating a collage that is unrecognizable. Students will primarily focus on composition while using a variety of colors, shapes, lines, textures, marks, and more to create their piece.

Have you ever wanted to try a non-traditional art process of painting? In this one-day workshop, students will learn to create dazzling abstract art using the acrylic pouring process. Students will explore the fluidity of the paints that allow movement, variation of patterns and evolvement of colors. The process is unique, fun, creative, and meditative.

In this one-day adult workshop, create a home out of clay for your beloved succulents and/or air plaints! Students will learn several hand-building techniques like making slabs and coils to construct boxes, globes, wall-hanging dishes and pocket pots for their plants. Students will also use underglazes or stroke and coat glaze to color and decorate their pieces. Students can purchase ceramics open studio time during the semester to clear glaze their pieces if needed. The materials fee covers clay, the firing fee and materials used during the workshop.

Learn relief printing from start to finish. Through instructor demonstration and hands-on experience, students design, cut, and print a linoleum block print. We cover troubleshooting and fixing common printmaking problems, as well as creating finished proofs and editions.

7933 Adding Color to Metals with Colored Pencils
Instructor: Sue Sachs
Make your finished metal pieces or discs/squares for pendants pop with color in this one-day workshop! Students will have the opportunity to explore a unique finishing technique for their jewelry pieces by using Prismacolor pencils to liven up their creations with color. The instructor will also provide demonstrations on different texturing methods on metals to enhance the colors. Beginner and experienced students, will be provided copper and brass. Students are encouraged to bring their own Prismacolor pencils if they have them. The Art Center will be providing a limited color palette of Prismacolor pencils for this workshop.

7934 Painting Autumn Leaves in Watercolor
Instructor: Kat Block
In this workshop, students will work from a still life to create paintings of leaves. Students will collect their own leaves, lay them on a surface and learn how to draw them accurately, including the cast shadows. Then, they will paint, allowing the colors to mix themselves on the paper where results are vibrant, perfectly organic, and beautiful.

8099 NEW! Texture and Clay Molds for Ceramics
Instructor: Melissa Krishnamurthy
Everyone loves to add texture and design elements to their clay pieces, but buying these can be expensive; so, let’s make your own! This two-part workshop is made for currently enrolled fall semester students, who already have some experience in working with clay. During the first session, students will use carboard tube, hot glue and yarn to design their own texture rollers and use clay to make molds of everyday objects like shells, buttons, flowers, keys and more. Then, during the second session, students make thrown or hand-built pieces and use the tools made to create interesting textures, designs, patterns and embellishments. Students can glaze their decorated pieces in their class or purchase ceramics open studio to do so. Students will need to purchase their own clay the day of the workshop or use clay they may already have.

Explore encaustic, the art of painting with molten beeswax mixed with colored pigments and resin. This unusual medium provides results like no other with mysterious, deep, and translucent colors. Experiment with techniques such as layering, fusing, and incising. Safe handling of materials will also be covered. No experience necessary. Some materials provided. Impasto painting has the ability to open wonderful new possibilities for visual expression. Paint is applied thickly to raise the brush strokes and palette knife’s markings from the canvas. In this one-day workshop, students will create a small landscape and learn a variety of impasto painting techniques such as texture, color mixing, and 3D composition.

Learn when and how to use your wood, rubber, or metal ribs to unlock their full potential! In this one day throwing workshop, students will have fun, playing and experimenting with one of the best ceramic tools, the rib. The instructor will provide demonstrations on which ones work best for smoothing, compressing, and shaping. Some wheel throwing experience is required. Bring any ribs from your own collection and maybe try out some ribs provided by the teacher. Trimming and glazing these pieces will need to be done in your regular class or in open studio. 7967 Experimenting in Ceramics

Have you ever wanted to create in clay or try something new? Then, this workshop is for you! This two-day workshop is designed for all students of all levels who want to let their imaginative ideas come to life. Please come with some creative ideas to the workshop. On the first day, students will make 1–3 hand-built pieces in clay. On the second day, students will have the choice to finish their bisque fired pieces with typical glazes provided in the studio OR use safe materials, like mason stains, colored clay bits, dried glaze, grog, and other materials to create imaginative pieces. Some of these alternative decorating techniques can be applied on greenware pieces on the first day. Most materials provided. Clay will need to be purchased on the first day of the workshop.

7969 The Art of Collagraph Printmaking
Instructor: Andrea Epstein
Collagraph is a unique process of collaging with a variety of textures and materials to create a plate from which a one-of-a kind print is pulled. In this two-day workshop, students will explore different techniques and skills to create their own collagraph prints. The instructor will provide demonstrations on dried and coated collagraph that can be printed with both intaglio and relief techniques to makes striking graphic images. On the first day, students will create their collagraph utilizing a variety of materials, textures, and glues. On the second day, students will experiment with various inking and printing methods. Challenge yourself to think small in this fun, fast-paced workshop where we create tiny 5×7 inch and smaller works of art! 7976 Mosaics: Tiny Pieces Make the Big Picture

Welcome to the world of mosaics, where not only is it okay to break things, it’s expected! This intensive workshop will introduce beginners to the basics of mosaic making. Learn about the amazing variety of materials and adhesives, design and composition, cutting and laying out tiles, and the grouting process. Materials such as vitreous glass tile, ceramic tile, stained glass, and china are available for students to explore and incorporate in their work. Students will complete an 8×6 inch mosaic by the day’s end.
