As my children grew older and more independent, I found I had more time for myself, and it was then that I found the Art Center. I became a member 13 years ago and haven’t looked back. Since then, I’ve taken classes, volunteered as part of the Members Committee, and started some wonderful friendships. It’s those friendships, along with the exceptional artists present at the Art Center, that have made coming to the Art Center so special.
My first class was Nocturnal Painting with Gerry Heydt. We set up and painted a landscape in the dark, which was a blast! The approach I learned here helped me avoid overthinking and worrying about every brushstroke. I also took a class with Matthew Langley, who introduced the class to a variety of Master Painters as encouragement to experiment with our work. The freedom this inspired—risk-taking and thinking outside the box—helped me achieve another level of creativity. This approach to different techniques has made a dramatic difference and has helped push my painting to another level.
I have grown as an artist with the Art Center and will continue to explore and experiment. Art is a way of life, and the private nature of art-making alone in the studio is a means of communicating when shared. I’m so happy to be able to share my art with the wonderful people at the Art Center.
