Mark Montgomery: Past Paper Dreams: Collage Works 2018–2024

Ann’s Place Gallery
March 29–May 18
Opening Reception: Saturday, March 29, 2–4 PM

Mark Montgomery, The Unknown, 2024, Collage on panel, 12 x 9 images.

This body of work spans a six-year period where Mark Montgomery, formerly a painter, plunged into the world of collage. His drive to switch to this medium was driven by the artist’s long love of vintage ephemera, comic books, and magazines, as well as a return to his early commercial art roots in creating “mechanicals” (pre-computer method of creating designs for print).

Artist’s Bio
Mark Montgomery is a fine artist focused on creating abstract collage works using vintage paper mounted on panel. Deeply influenced by Abstract, Surrealist, and collage artists of the early to mid-20th century, Mark finds inspiration in richly printed ephemera (circa 1910s–1960s), transforming it into colorful compositions within fantastical environments. Mark’s work has been published in Plastikomb magazine (USA/Germany) and the online magazine Contemporary Collage (UK). When not creating fine art, Mark serves as Creative Director at award-winning IEEE Spectrum, a science and electro-technology magazine based in New York City.
