The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey’s Studio School, located in Summit, NJ, offers classes and workshops for artists of all ages and skill levels. 8468 Clay Critters (ages 5-7)

Tuesdays, 3:30–4:30 PM
Does your child like getting their hands dirty and love animals? This is their class! Working with clay will strengthen your child’s understanding of gravity, science, and nature—plus it is super fun! Different sculptural methods will be introduced as we recreate our favorite members of the animal kingdom—a wonderful way to have fun and learn about animal anatomy.

8494 NEW! The Clay Lab (ages 10-13)
Instructor: Denise Banaag
Wednesdays, 4–6 PM
Let’s get messy and inventive in the Clay Lab! Students will explore the fundamentals of both handbuilding and wheel throwing. Through demonstrations and hands-on clay projects, they will practice techniques such as pinch pots, coil and slab construction, and basic sculpting. Students will also have several chances to throw on the wheel during the semester. As they create both functional and sculptural pieces, they’ll learn fun decorating and finishing techniques.

8524 Hooray for Clay! (ages 6-9)

Thursdays, 4–5:30 PM
Do you like to be creative and get messy? Then let’s create with clay! Students will learn hand–building techniques, such as pinch pots, coil, press mold, and slabs, to build fun projects. Projects will change each session, so repeat students are welcome.
