ADULT CERAMIC CLASSES

Ceramics tuition fees include: class instruction, use of equipment, and the firings of works produced in class. The only additional material to purchase is clay, which is available at the Front Desk. Optional pottery tools are also available.

7844 Wheel Throwing for Beginners
Instructor: Denise Banaag
Mondays, 6:30–9 PM
From mugs to bowls, the possibilities are endless when creating on the pottery wheel! In this class, students will learn all of the basics: how to throw, open, pull, and trim clay to make functional vessels. Demonstrations will include how to make handles and add other embellishments to your thrown objects. The instructor will also teach basic glazing techniques. Limited class size for maximum instruction.

Are you looking to further develop your wheel throwing skills? In this class, students will focus on form, function, design, and problem solving. Students are encouraged to come with their own ideas, and the instructor will work with each student to achieve their pottery goals! This class is designed for intermediate to advanced level students who already have experience with wheel throwing.

This class is for students who want to continue their ceramics journey into the summer. The instructor will provide some ideas for projects, but students are encouraged to come with their own ideas they would like to create from clay.

7852 NEW! Introduction to Wheel Throwing for True Beginners

Tuesdays, 6:30–9 PM
Join the world of wheel thrown pottery! Learn how to throw on the wheel, trim, and apply slips and glazes. In this class, students will have plenty of one-on-one attention to learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing. Students will also learn the basics of centering and pulling, while making forms like cups, bowls, and plates. The instructor will provide demonstrations on decorating techniques using slips and glazes. Get started making beautiful and functional pieces of art! Limited class size for maximum instruction.

7858 Surface Decorating with Ceramics
Instructor: Emma Tabachnick
Wednesdays, 6:30–9 PM
In this class, students will have the opportunity to learn a variety of surface decorating techniques using glaze and slip to create unique one-of-a-kind pieces. Students will be shown some experimental options for finishing their pieces, like using wax resist when glazing and bubble glazing. Also, students will have the option to use slip in different ways such as slip trailing, paper resist, and carving. The instructor will primarily provide demonstrations on wheel thrown projects, but students with hand-building experience are welcome. This class is designed for intermediate and advanced students.

7884 NEW! Functional Lidded Pottery for Beginners

This class is designed for adults eager to explore the art of functional lidded pottery. Students will learn the fundamentals of crafting lidded vessels using a variety of techniques, including hand-building and optional wheel throwing. With an emphasis on form, function, and fit, students will create well-designed pieces that are both beautiful and practical. Students can choose from a range of projects, such as jars, salt cellars, butter dishes, and more, allowing for personal creativity and exploration. Whether new to ceramics or looking to refine their skills, students will gain confidence in designing and constructing unique, well-fitted lids while developing their own artistic style. This class is made for students who are beginners or who have some experience in ceramics.

Concentrate on refining your throwing skills with one of the Art Center's most energetic instructors. Expand your existing ceramic knowledge by tapping into alternative ways to manipulate clay.
