Alicia Flynn Cotter: Pixelations
April 1 – May 31, 2019
Pixelations represents a compilation of collage works by Alicia Flynn Cotter. By painting and printing papers, Alicia’s acrylic collages result in paintings with a somewhat pixelated appearance.
Starting with copy paper, book pages, or decorative paper, Alicia paints and prints them with layers of pattern. Pattern is formed using bubble wrap, tile designs, sponges, rubber stamps or simply a paintbrush. For some papers, a gel press is used to create monoprints that result in unique designs. Rubbings from textured surfaces add additional color and accents to the papers when needed. The papers are then torn and used to cover an acrylic painting to create the collage.
In recent years, Alicia has exhibited her work in several shows in New Jersey including the Watchung Arts Center, Mayo Performing Arts Center, South Avenue Arts, and The Artist Framer. She is a member of the Contemporary Art Group, a group of NJ artists who organize local art shows.
Alicia lives in Mountainside, NJ and is a graduate of Boston College and Kean University, where she earned a BFA in Studio Arts. She is an artist, calligrapher, and an instructor at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey.
