6790 Mixed Media Explorations

Tuesdays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
There is no limit to the possibilities in this mixed media class. Students will work in layers experimenting with additive and subtractive techniques using acrylic paint, acrylic mediums, plaster, fabric, paper, images, and stencils to create beautiful multi-dimensional surfaces on canvas and paper. Each lesson will include demonstrations as well as review of select contemporary mixed media artwork. The class will revisit color selection process, play with composition, loosen up and mix it up while having fun with endless experimentation. Some materials are provided.

6808 Introduction to Stained Glass

Tuesdays, 6:30–9 PM
Come explore the beautiful art of creating stained glass! This class will begin with the basics, such as making straight cuts and assembling a star shape. Students will progress to learning how to cut curves while creating a simple stained glass apple. Once the basic techniques are mastered, students will complete a 12×12-inch artwork of their own design. Working with the instructor, students will learn the techniques made famous by Tiffany, including designing, cutting, foiling, soldering, and finishing. Some materials provided.

6820 Mixed Media Collage Intensive

Wednesdays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
Use all your artistic abilities and skills to create a 14×14-inch mixed media collage while learning about color, design, pattern, drawing, watercolor, and more. Topics will include: creating a template; basic drawing, watercolor, and collage techniques; creating and deconstructing patterns; asymmetrical balance; extending the color palette; proper gluing; and varnishing. Demonstrations of materials and techniques will help guide students through their artistic process and creative journey. Some materials provided. Additional supplies to be discussed during the first class.

6930 NEW! Painting & Mixed Media Guided Open Studio
Instructor: Katherine Ivanova
Wednesdays, 12:30–3 PM
This guided open studio class is made for students who have some prior art experience in painting and/or mixed media. In each session, the instructor will provide guidance and individualized advice to each student’s work. Additionally, students will be encouraged to find their own artistic voice, inspiration, explore different materials, and try new style approaches to their pieces. The instructor is an experienced painter and mixed media artist who can assist students with representational and abstract art in oil, acrylic, watercolor, inks and other types of mixed media. Please bring desired mediums/materials you wish to work with during the duration of the class and the instructor can discuss one-on-one with you what other supplies you could use for your piece.

6853 Abstract Mixed Media

Thursdays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
In this class, students will explore different avenues of creative expression and be exposed to a wide range of materials from paint to fibers to create a unique abstract piece of art. The instructor will provide some demonstrations on papermaking and simple printmaking techniques where students can incorporate those processes into their work. Additionally, the instructor will teach about composition, texture, light, and color. Most supplies will be provided. Additional supplies to be discussed during the first class based on each student’s project idea.
