6509 The Right Start & Beyond: Jewelry Techniques

Bring your jewelry designs to life! In this class, students of all levels will create and fabricate their individualized jewelry visions. Beginner students will learn basic jewelry fabrication techniques and then make their very own unique piece. Intermediate and advanced students will work on their own innovative designs with the help of the instructor. These students will be able to develop advanced skills and techniques. Some materials provided.

6660/6661 NEW! Wax Carving for Jewelry Casting

Mondays, 3:30–6 PM
If you have ever wanted to try wax carving or jewelry-making without a torch, this class is for you! Students will learn the fundamentals of wax carving and develop their own designs for rings, pendants, or brooches. Students will complete at least one design that will be ready for casting by the completion of the course. The instructor will provide recommendations for casting houses and assist students with making arrangements for casting. Finishing techniques will also be covered where students will be able to practice on a sample ring. Some materials provided. Additional supplies to be discussed during the first class.

6530/6654 Jewelry & Metalsmithing

Study with working artist, master metalworker, and VACNJ instructor of more than 40 years, Sue Sachs. Learn jewelry and metalsmithing techniques through demonstrations, discussion, and individualized instruction using silver, copper, brass, or all three in combination. Start by designing your own piece and learn core techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering, texturing, and polishing to bring it to life. Students will be led through a skills-based curriculum, enabling them to learn and grow skills at their own level and pace. Please bring a sketchbook to the first class to work on your design and take notes. Some materials provided. Additional supplies to be discussed during the first class.

6542 Explorations in Chain Making

Using basic jewelry-making skills, learn how to transform wire into statement jewelry chains. Students will learn how to make jump rings, solder simple joints, and create their own chain link patterns. Various link patterns and handmade clasps will also be covered. Students will leave with a bracelet or necklace by the end of this class.

Enjoy jewelry making without the use of heat or machinery! This class will be a fun and relaxed environment without the worry of learning how to use machinery in the studio. Learn to make bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and more using a variety of beautiful beads. All skill levels welcome.

This comprehensive class will cover the foundational skills and techniques of jewelry making, while also offering more experienced students the opportunity to build their skill set. Students will learn how to plan and fabricate jewelry pieces of their own design in a fun and encouraging environment. Some materials provided. 6536/6537 The Magic of Metal Clay
Instructor: Kelly Green Grady
Wednesdays, 6:30–9 PM
Metal clay is a unique material that consists of particles of metal suspended in an organic binder. It can be formed like clay, but when fired yields a solid metal object. Students will be introduced to working with a silver-based metal clay. Learn how to model, texture, and set stones in silver-based metal clay that will be fired to create beautiful finished pieces of jewelry. No jewelry experience necessary! Some materials provided. Additional supplies to be discussed in first class.
