5516 NEW! Tile-tastic! Slab-Rolled Tile Creations
Instructor: Melissa Krishnamurthy
Tuesdays, 12:45–3:15 PM
The slab roller makes creating large, uniform, flat clay slabs a breeze. Slabs can then be cut into tiles for a wide array of functional and decorative pieces. Take a deep dive into the versatility of tiles while making project such as wall sculptures, clocks, house number plaques, and more by utilizing the slab roller.

5855 The Magic of Metal Clay
Instructor: Kelly Green Grady
Wednesdays, 6:30–9 PM
Metal clay is a unique material that consists of particles of metal suspended in an organic binder. It can be formed like clay, but when fired yields a solid metal object. Students will be introduced to working with PMC3; a silver-based metal clay. Learn how to model, texture and set stones in PMC3 that will be fired to create beautiful finished pieces of jewelry. No jewelry experience necessary! Some materials provided. Additional materials to be discussed in first class.

5554 Fabric Art

Want to work with fabric, but don’t want to sew? Fabric can be used for much more than just sewing! In this course, you will learn about quilts, landscapes, and still lifes, as well as basic art principles such as composition, pattern, and even art history. Students will create nine fabric collages; no sewing required.

5594 Felted Art: Needle Felting in 2D & 3D

Wednesdays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
Needle felting is a fun fiber technique that is easy to learn and full of possibilities. Through demonstrations and step-by-step instruction, students will learn how to transform colorful wool roving into beautiful, tactile felted images and objects. Techniques covered will include how to form basic shapes, layering colors, adding details, and more. Our class will create landscapes, abstract works, and sculptural 3D pieces, as well as incorporate found objects and upcycled woolens. Individual designs are encouraged and will allow for the creation of truly one-of-a-kind pieces of felted art.

This general painting class places the emphasis on oil painting, but you may work in the medium of your choice. Each class will begin with a short talk or demonstration covering multiple topics. Explore your inspiration and discover your vision.

5693 Interior Paintings

In this class we will use our indoor surroundings as inspiration to make paintings of rooms that are imbued with much more than their actual furnishings. Interior spaces can project many personalities or moods that have an effect on our feelings. Students will learn technical aspects such as how to create drama through composition and the use of the grid system for transferring images to canvas. Each week we will study interior paintings from art history to observe different approaches and techniques. You will observe how perspective, light, and shadow contribute to rendering an interior space. These will inspire your own ideas on how to approach your painting and you can work in any medium of your choice.

5695 Painting from Photographs

Tuesdays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
Create better paintings from photographs. Rather than simply copying, learn to analyze and redesign images to produce a stronger composition. By sketching basic shapes and values, you can decide what to leave in and what to edit out. A focal point will be determined and design elements arranged to support it. Establishing a basic plan will give you more confidence when beginning your own painting, and with a strong foundation the details will sing even louder. You may work in their choice of paint media and bring your own or copyright-free photos for reference.

5644 Introduction to Colored Pencils

Learn the basics of rendering three-dimensional, life-like images in colored pencils. Principles such as color theory, color observation, composition, and layering techniques will help students achieve painterly effects in this unique medium. Discussion of materials including papers and the use of solvents and gel pens will be included.

5758 Mixed Media Collage Intensive

Wednesdays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
Use all your artistic abilities and skills to create an 18 x 18 inch mixed media collage while learning about color, design, pattern, drawing, watercolor, and more. Topics will include: creating a template; basic drawing, watercolor, and collage techniques; creating and deconstructing patterns; asymmetrical balance; extending the color palette; and proper gluing and varnishing. Demonstrations of materials and techniques will help guide students through their artistic process and creative journey. Some materials provided.

5689 NEW! Create Your Own Video Game Play Land (ages 6–11)

Sundays, 12:30–2:30 PM
Create your own video game concept and make an actual space your characters can play in! Students will transform a large cardboard box into a multi-level video game setting. Students will use paint, model magic, wood, and more to create characters for their games. After five weeks students will have their own custom video game play land to take home to continue their adventures.

5690 Create Your Own Animal Sanctuary (ages 6–11)

Saturdays, 2–4 PM
Create your own animal sanctuary in this exciting new class! Over the course of five weeks students will create a large 4 room sanctuary for animals that they will make out of model magic. Each room will be a habitat for their animals to live in. Create a swamp with crocodiles, a savannah with lions, a jungle with monkey and snakes, and an arctic playground for penguins!

TEEN CLASSES

5536 NEW! Watercolor Sampler (ages 13–17)

Thursdays, 4–6 PM
This introductory watercolor class will teach students essential foundational techniques, while also exercising their creativity and encouraging them to experiment. Students will gain an understanding of water usage, color mixing, and creating cohesive washes of color. Also, this kind of knowledge will be expanded with the integration of more intricate techniques such as glazing, layering, creating textures, and utilizing the whites of the paper. There will be opportunities for students to work with a variety of subject matters such as landscapes, florals, animals, and illustrations.
