3901 NEW! Fabric Design—Print, Resist, & Stitching Techniques (ages 13–17)
Instructor: Alicia Cotter
Mondays, 6–8 PM
Learn how to design your own fabric using a variety of mediums and techniques. Make stamps from foam and cardboard to print repetitive patterns. Draw with mix of hair gel and glue to resist paint for a batik effect. Decorative stitching can be added for embellishment and dimension. Finished pieces can be mounted for hanging or stretched on an embroidery hoop for display. Some materials provided.

Build up your confidence in your drawing skills! Learn how to take what you see in the 3D world and successfully translate it to a 2D paper surface. Whether you are an experienced artist preparing to create a portfolio or are new to the art world, students will receive individual attention appropriate to their level.

3870 Jewelry Design & Metalworking for Teens (12–17)
Instructor: Sarah Maxwell
Tuesdays, 6–8 PM
This exciting class will introduce teens to jewelry making techniques in two categories: beading and wire working. Students will learn how to create beads from various materials such as paper, clay, and polymer clay. Students will also explore how to manipulate wire into jewelry by using wrapping, weaving, and bending techniques. Please bring a notebook, pencil, and eraser. An introductory tool kit is provided.

3912 Teen Sculpture (ages 13–17)

Sometimes you just need to unplug and get your hands dirty. There is no greater satisfaction than conquering gravity and creating three dimensionally, so kick your teen off the computer so they can fuel their creativity with ceramic handbuilding, papier mâché over armatures, plaster forms, and fiber art. Be amazed by all the ways you can make sculptures in this class.

3871 Exploring Digital Art (ages 13–17)

Digital art has never been more accessible than it is today. Explore digital painting and drawing techniques that will allow you to express yourself with the freedom only digital media provides; no clean up needed! Learn how to use various tools in Photoshop and other programs, using Wacom tablets and Mac computers to create full-color landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and more. Tablets and computers provided for use during class time.

3920 The Art of Graffiti (ages 12–16)

Make art with your mark! Create your own tag using soft and sharp shapes, wild style, or Gothic font. Learn how to create 3D letters using perspective and make connected letters that flow. Next, you will draw a background setting and arrange your graffiti into an aesthetically pleasing composition. Finally, you will build your own 3D graffiti wall and tag it! Fine art concepts such as composition, perspective, color theory, and sculpting methods will all be taught alongside graffiti techniques. Some materials provided.

3840 Insta-Folio: Portfolio in a Pinch (ages 12–17)

Wednesdays, 4–6 PM
This is the perfect class for students looking to create a strong portfolio for either a college or academic program. Each week, students will create a work of art in a variety of media such as charcoal, pencil, watercolor, acrylic, and even sculpture. By the end of the semester students will have 7–10 pieces that they can use toward their portfolio, along with the knowledge of how to photograph and present their work in a cohesive way.

3873 Developing Your Portfolio for Art School (ages 13–17)

This course is for students preparing their portfolios for applying to college art programs. Students will have their current portfolios reviewed and skills assessed in order to evaluate what additional work is needed. Lessons will then be administered to help improve skills and prepare the strongest work possible for their college applications. Students will have the opportunity to work from a clothed model.

With an emphasis on artistic individuality, your teen will build a solid drawing and painting foundation through demonstrations and experimentations. Students will develop their own styles and, at the same time, learn fundamentals of drawing and painting by exploring color and shadow to create still lifes, portraits, and more. Storyboard drawing is an essential part of the development process for animation, film, advertising, and more. This class will introduce students to quick, dynamic drawing strategies used for telling clear stories, as well as the fun of pitching a drawn sequence.

3857 Hit the Books! Teen Bookmaking
Instructor: Aliese Andersen Volk
Thursdays, 6:30–8:30 PM
This class will cover the tools and techniques used to create your own handmade books, with an emphasis on making books rather than creating written or illustrated content. Students will learn construction techniques including pamphlet binding and Japanese stab binding and decorative techniques to create paste papers and covers. Alternative styles of book creation such as accordion fold and single-pages books will be discussed. No previous experience is required, and you’ll finish with a variety of sample books to use for sketchbooks, journals, or gifts!

3888 Introduction to Drawing from the Model (ages 13–17)

This class is an introduction to figure drawing for teens and is recommended for students considering art school, or who have an interest in learning to render the human form. Learn the fundamental principles of life including: skeletal and soft tissue anatomy; simplifying and blocking in forms; improving observation and rendering skills. Students will draw from clothed models.

3885 Introduction to Oil Painting (ages 13–17)

Oil paints have been a classic medium for centuries because of their luminosity and ease of use. Learn the foundation skills of painting in oils in this introductory course. We will cover the basics, including blocking in a composition, color mixing, value studies, and proper handling of materials. Students should wear clothes that can get messy.

3887 Drawing & Painting: The Next Steps (ages 13–17)

Saturdays, 2–4 PM
Advance your drawing and painting techniques using graphite, charcoal, and oil paint. Students will work on still lifes, drawing from a model, perspective, color, and composition. They will then organize a group of work into a cohesive collection and develop a portfolio for future college use. Some materials are provided.

3891 Character Design (ages 13–17)
Instructor: Joel Tidey
Saturdays, 2:30–4:30 PM
Character design for comics, video games, animation, and more. In this drawing-heavy course, students will get into gesture, structure, perspective, and foreshortening. We will also discuss how best to express your character’s unique traits to make them believable to your audience. Upon completing this course, students will have a character turnaround, expression sheet, action sheet, and (time permitting) storyboard or comic sequence.

TEEN WORKSHOPS

3792 NEW! Art Journaling (ages 13–17)
Instructor: Heidi SanFilippo
Art journaling is a wonderful habit for everyone, not just artists! Keeping a journal that contains one’s inspirations, frustrations, dreams, and fears is a way to creatively process everyday life. Teens will make their own journal with simple bookbinding techniques and will fill its pages both inside and outside of the workshop. We’ll also encourage teens to share their journaling journey during the workshop.

3816 NEW! Teen Screens: Silkscreen Printmaking (ages 13–17)
Instructor: Aliese Andersen Volk
Experiment with screen printing! This simple and expressive technique is a fun way to make multiples and unique monoprints of your own design. Learn the basics of this non-toxic method and begin to imagine all the possibilities! Students will be able to print an edition or create unique monotypes. Printing will use acrylic inks.
