4043 Explorations in Jewelry Techniques & Design
Instructor: Elizabeth Tokoly
Mondays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
This class will begin by covering foundational skills such as piercing by sawing, hammering texture, and bezel setting. Students will then progress to making jump rings and rivets and will hone their soldering skills by creating a chain with a toggle clasp. Those wishing to learn more advanced skills will be introduced to step bezel, prongs, and tube setting techniques. Individual designs are encouraged and will allow for the creation of truly one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.

4066 NEW! Fancy Shaped Stone Ring Settings

Mondays, 12:30–3 PM
Learn to build settings and ring shanks to accommodate designs with fancy-shaped stones. Take your ring shanks to the next level using the rolling mill and forging techniques. We will use shaped stones such as emerald, square, pear, trillion, or triangle to explore different types of settings.

Bring creativity and concentration to metalworking! Beginners learn the basics and intermediate students will learn new techniques. Some materials provided; additional materials to be discussed in the first class.

4008/4009 Jewelry & Metalsmithing

4009 Tuesdays, 7:30–10 PM
Study with Sue Sachs who is a working artist, master metalworker, and instructor of more than 30 years at the Art Center. Learn jewelry and metalsmithing techniques through demonstrations, discussion, and individualized instruction using silver, copper, brass, or all three in combination. Start by designing your own piece and learn core techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering, texturing, and polishing to bring it to life. Students will be led through a skills-based curriculum, enabling them to learn and grow skills at their own level and pace. Please bring a sketchbook to the first class to work on your design and take notes. Other materials will be discussed in class.

4088 The Right Start & Beyond: Jewelry Techniques

Stones are a great way to add color and dimension to your work, and there are design options for stone setting other than a bezel. This course will introduce students to different methods of stone setting including tube setting with stacking rings, channel wire setting, and two different techniques of flat-back stone prong setting. For intermediate to advanced level students. Materials will be discussed in the first class.
