Adult Jewelry Classes

3691 Explorations in Jewelry Techniques & Design
Instructor: Elizabeth Tokoly
Mondays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
Move through a series of projects to build foundational jewelry-making skills. Students will learn to use jump rings and rivets for step bezel setting and cold connections, create a chain with a toggle clasp using texturing and soldering, and fabricate bamboo and facet-file rings. Appliqué jewelry, hollow forms, easy prongs, and tube settings will also be covered. Completion of projects will vary based on your designs and pace of progress. Advanced students are welcome to use time for individual projects while overseen by instructor. At the end of the class session a curriculum will be created for each student specific to their design style and technical direction for future endeavors.

This class is for students with projects in progress who could use guidance in how to proceed or finish their work, or have ideas for pieces they need help in bringing to life. Take advantage of Elizabeth Tokoly’s extensive knowledge of jewelry design and fabrication to learn or improve skills that will help you achieve your vision.

Bring creativity and concentration to metalworking! Beginners learn the basics and intermediate students will learn new techniques. Some materials provided. Additional materials to be discussed in the first class.

3596/3595 Jewelry & Metalsmithing

3595 Tuesdays, 7:30–10 PM
Study with Sue Sachs, a working artist, master metalworker, and instructor of more than 30 years at the Art Center. Learn jewelry and metalsmithing techniques through demonstrations, discussion, and individualized instruction using silver, copper, brass, or all three in combination. Start by designing your own piece and learn core techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering, texturing, and polishing to bring it to life. Students will be led through a skills-based curriculum, enabling them to learn and grow skills at their own level and pace. Please bring a sketchbook to the first class to work on your design and take notes. Other materials will be discussed in class.

3675 The Right Start & Beyond: Jewelry Techniques

Bring creativity and concentration to metalworking! Beginners will be shown the basics and intermediate students will learn new techniques. An introduction to working with gold will be available for those interested. Some materials provided; additional materials to be discussed in the first class.

3693 Beyond the Bezel: Stone Setting
Instructor: Elizabeth Tokoly
Fridays, 9:30 AM–12 PM
Stones are a great way to add color and dimension to your work, and there are design options for stone setting other than a bezel. This course will introduce students to different methods of stone setting including tube setting with stacking rings, channel wire setting, and two different techniques of flat-back stone-prong setting. For intermediate to advanced level students. Materials will be discussed in the first class.
