Instructor: Chase Cantwell
Explore encaustic, the art of painting with molten beeswax mixed with colored pigments and resin. This unusual medium provides results like no other with mysterious, deep, and translucent colors. Experiment with techniques such as layering, fusing, and incising. Safe handling of materials will also be covered. No experience necessary. Some materials included.

6308 Pen & Ink Drawing
Instructor: Drew Maillard
Explore pen & ink as a drawing medium. Start with value and texture exercises and continue to simple drawings. Experiment with different pen & ink drawing tools brought by the instructor such as dip-quill pens and brush pens.

6293/6294 Jewelry Wax Carving
Instructor: Jeannette Mullarkey
This two-day intensive workshop will focus on teaching the techniques of creating jewelry using wax carving and construction methods. Wax is a very versatile medium and allows the artist to create fluid, intricate, sculpturally exciting works. Once the wax model is completed the piece will be sent out for casting into silver or gold and then finished in the studio.

6296 GR Forms in Clay
Instructor: Melissa Krishnamurthy
Have you ever wanted to make handmade functional pieces such as dinnerware out of clay? In this GR Forms one-day workshop, you will be able to choose from 23 wooden drape molds to create beautiful and identical-shaped pieces that can be used for any occasion. This workshop will focus on construction only; pieces can be glazed during open studio sessions, or in a regular semester class for returning students. Clay will need to be purchased on the day of the workshop. The materials fee covers the bisque firing. Open studios for ceramics can be purchased and scheduled to glaze piece(s) if not currently registered in a ceramics class.

6295 DSLR Camera Basics

This hands-on workshop is designed to give students a solid understanding of their DSLR camera when using the automated features and modes. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the manual capabilities and controls for complete creative control. This workshop is NOT designed for point-and-shoot cameras. Please bring your own personal DSLR camera on the day of the workshop.

This workshop is perfect for artists working in any medium to help them understand color to the fullest. Elements of temperature, value, and underlying hues will be demonstrated. Learn to mix the exact color you want and how to recreate it again. Through discussion and hands-on exercises, students will gain confidence and knowledge in how color works and how to make it work for them. Although students will be working in acrylics, this workshop pertains to all color media.

Learn relief printing from start to finish! Through instructor demonstration and hands-on experience, students design, cut, and print a linoleum block print. We cover troubleshooting and fixing common printmaking problems as well as creating finished proofs and editions.

6298 Mixed Media Sampler

If you have been curious about trying out mixed media art, this workshop is for you! Create a unique 10 x 10-inch artwork incorporating a multitude of mixed media techniques. Techniques will include creating and using handcrafted stamps, making handmade paper from recycled paper for collaging, painting with acrylics, and more. Finishing techniques will also be covered.

Spice up the fall season by creating a series of charming themed projects out of clay! In this one-day workshop, students will have the opportunity to create baskets, apples, pumpkin jars, or woven clay wall plaques. Throwing closed forms on the pottery wheel to create apples and pumpkins will be taught. Handbuilding for basic clay weaving to make wall plaques will be shown. This workshop is designed for intermediate- and advanced-level students. Materials fee covers the bisque firing. Clay will need to be purchased on the day of the workshop. 6315 NEW! Painting Autumn Leaves in Watercolor
Instructor: Kat Block
In this workshop, students will work from a still life to create paintings of leaves. Students will collect their own leaves, lay them on a surface, and learn how to draw them accurately, including the cast shadows. Then, they will paint, allowing the colors to mix themselves on the paper where the results are vibrant, perfectly organic, and beautiful.

Weave a scarf, table runner, or wall piece in this special weekend workshop. Learn the basics of weaving on a tabletop four-harness loom with FIT Textile/Surface Design professor, Ellen Hess. Students will work on four-harness looms and weave the project of their choice.

Calling all animal lovers! Learn the skills that it takes to capture your animal companions using an incredibly versatile medium: pastels. Following demonstrations, you will be given an in-depth education of all the aspects of painting a variety of animals including, but not limited to, how to pick colors from reference images, the importance of color theory, and how to create texture with layering. By the end of this workshop, you will have all the skills it takes to create pastel masterpieces of beloved animals or even your own pet.

Gel plates have a soft, gelatin-like feel, but are durable, reusable, and simple to work with. Learn the process of monotype printmaking using acrylic paints with this versatile and economical printmaking tool. In this workshop, students will enhance their pottery skills further by learning how to throw miniature pieces using the “off the hump” technique. Additionally, students will be encouraged to exercise their creativity and imagination while throwing small donut vases, jewelry holders, trinket boxes, narrow neck vases, and more! This workshop is for students who have taken at least one semester of wheel throwing. Students can finish their pieces in their ceramics class or purchase open studio time. 6304 Jewelry Design & Rendering

Take your interest in jewelry design to the level and learn the traditional rendering techniques that have been used to design jewelry for centuries! Working with pencil, gouache, and watercolor, students will learn how to accurately represent their jewelry design concepts while creating not only a blueprint for their jewelry making, but beautiful pieces of rendered artwork worthy of display themselves. Lessons will include how to draw in realistic scale, color mixing, and shading, as well as how to draft a piece of jewelry from multiple views before production. Most materials provided.

6319 NEW! Two-Glaze Combinations with Louise Wheeler
Instructor: Louise Wheeler
In this one-day workshop, students will obtain knowledge and skills to layer two glazes on top of each other. As a result of the combination they choose, their piece will have a unique glaze color. A variety of glaze combination test tiles will be available for reference and the instructor will provide demonstrations on how to use the combinations. Also, techniques to highlight textured surfaces will be demonstrated. This workshop is intended to show how to maximize the glazing options with studio-provided materials. Bisque pieces are to be brought on the day of the workshop.
