5413 Anime/Manga & Comic Drawing (ages 11–16)

Create your own characters! Explore comic-book and Japanese/Chinese-style drawing, from dynamic perspectives to classic anime/manga facial features.

5371 Just Drawing (ages 13–17)

Tuesdays, 4–6 PM
Build up your confidence in your drawing skills! Learn how to take what you see in the 3D world and successfully translate it to a 2D paper surface. Whether you are an experienced artist preparing to create a portfolio or are new to the art world, students will receive individual attention appropriate to their level.

5400 The Art of Graffiti (ages 12–16)

Tuesdays, 6–8 PM
Make art with your mark! Create your own tag using soft and sharp shapes, wild style, or Gothic font. Learn how to create 3D letters using perspective and make connected letters that flow. Next, you will draw a background setting and arrange your graffiti into an aesthetically pleasing composition. Finally, you will build your own 3D graffiti wall and tag it! Fine art concepts such as composition, perspective, color theory, and sculpting methods will all be taught alongside graffiti techniques. Some materials provided.

5395 Teen Sculpture (ages 13–17)

Sometimes you just need to unplug and get your hands dirty. There is no greater satisfaction than conquering gravity and creating three dimensionally, so kick your teen off the computer so they can fuel their creativity with ceramic handbuilding, papier mâché over armatures, plaster forms, and fiber art. Be amazed by all the ways you can make sculptures in this class.

5383 Exploring Digital Art (ages 13–17)

Tuesdays, 6:30–8:30 PM
Digital art has never been more accessible than it is today. Explore digital painting and drawing techniques that will allow you to express yourself with the freedom only digital media provides—no clean up needed! Learn how to use various tools in Photoshop and other programs using Wacom tablets and Mac computers to create full-color landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and more. Tablets and computers provided for use during class time. Students must have a portable storage device, such as a thumb drive, for saving their progress in class.

5424 Insta-Folio: Portfolio in a Pinch (ages 12–17)

Wednesdays, 4–6 PM
This is the perfect class for students looking to create a strong portfolio for either a college or academic program. Each week students will create a work of art in a variety of media such as charcoal, pencil, watercolor, acrylic, and even sculpture. By the end of the semester, students will have 7–10 pieces that they can use toward their portfolio, along with the knowledge of how to photograph and present their work in a cohesive way.

5438 Creative Ceramics for Teens (ages 13–17)

Learn the fundamentals of handbuilding, wheel throwing, and sculpting in a relaxed atmosphere. Gain confidence in your sculpting and throwing skills!

5415 NEW! Photoshop Comic Book & Anime Art (ages 13–17)

Thursdays, 6–8 PM
Transform your original black & white line art comic book and anime drawings into fully colored images in Photoshop. Students will learn how to scan in their line art drawings to add effects and colors with the various tools available in Photoshop. Once coloring and effects have been added, students will be able to print their finished digital pieces. Please bring any black & white artwork from home to class and a USB drive to to save your work each week.

Learn foundational jewelry making techniques in this exciting and creative class! Students will learn jewelry fabrication techniques using sheet metal, piercing and sawing methods, wire work, and texturing tools to create statement jewelry pieces. Projects will include pendants, rings, cuff bracelets, and more! Students are encouraged to bring their own jewelry sketchbook to class. Class discussions on jewelry education and careers will also take place.

5428 Drawing & Painting (ages 13–17)

With an emphasis on artistic individuality, your teen will build a solid drawing and painting foundation through demonstrations and experimentations. Students will develop their own styles and, at the same time, learn fundamentals of drawing and painting by exploring color and shadow to create still lifes, portraits, and more. Students will have the opportunity to work from a clothed model.

This course is an introduction to the world of character design for comics, video games, animation, and more. This class highlights the various subjects needed to learn how to develop exciting characters. Each week students are introduced to a new professional character designer’s work, and a specific project is given to practice techniques and imaginative drawing. Areas of focus will be gesture drawing, introduction to basic anatomy, portrait sketching, and how to do turnarounds when developing a character. Some basic drawing skills are needed to get the most from this class.

5472/5473 Introduction to Oil Painting (ages 13–17)

Oil paints have been a classic medium for centuries because of their luminosity and ease of use. Learn the foundation skills of painting in oils in this introductory course. We will cover the basics, including blocking in a composition, color mixing, value studies, and proper handling of materials. Students should wear clothes that can get messy.

5471 Drawing & Painting: The Next Steps (ages 13–17)

Saturdays, 2–4 PM
Advance your drawing and painting techniques using graphite, charcoal, and oil paint. Students will work on still lifes, drawing from a model, perspective, color, and composition. They will then organize a group of work into a cohesive collection and develop a portfolio for future college use. Some materials are provided.
