Artist’s Statement
This exhibition features evocative watercolors that artist Eric Rhinehart refers to as “destination paintings”. These works capture the people, places, and cultures Rhinehart has encountered in his travels throughout Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. Also on display are his illustrations for the book The ABCs of Paradise Found (2021), written by author Karen Amanda Toulon. This exhibition displays both sides of Rhinehart’s watercolor practice, offering a tour of seaside settings and everyday life across the globe.

Artist’s Bio
For over thirty years, Rhinehart has worked as a freelance illustrator and art director while practicing painting and photography. He earned his BFA from the Parsons School of Design in New York City, and has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C., Miami, and his hometown of Detroit. Rhinehart has also taught watercolor classes at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey and the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, New Jersey. Rhinehart’s most recent illustrations can be found in Toulon’s new book My Cats Know Morse Code and Other Observations (2023).
