Alice Momm: A Conversation with Trees
April 14, 2017 – June 25, 2017
Alice Momm is a Harlem-based artist whose work is inspired both by her immersion in and longing for nature. The ephemeral, sculptural and photographic works featured in “A Conversation with Trees” grew from a quiet dialogue between the artist and the trees and plants encountered during daily walks. Momm collects the natural materials for her work only after they are shed and scattered, and through tangible handwork, care, questioning, and metaphor, brings them into a newly re-imagined life as art. She notes, “With the current administration’s attack on climate science and the dismantling of protections for our natural world, my work has evolved to include remediation and community engagement.”
