Artist’s Statement:
Kiran K. Dhaliwal’s series Imprints of India is inspired by her birthplace of rural India. Though she has since settled in New Jersey, Dhaliwal’s artistic practice draws her back to the culture, customs, and histories of her homeland. Dhaliwal’s paintings of everyday scenes and settings explore the ways that people relate to their surroundings, global human connections, and the relationship between beauty and despair across diverse perspectives. While influenced by the past, her artwork communicates the possibilities of the future. Dhaliwal is primarily an oil painter, though this exhibition includes her recent experiments with encaustics and mixed media.
