Winter break at the Art Center isn’t just for the kids—we offer a series of classes and workshops for adults too. It’s the perfect time to sharpen your current skills or give a new medium a try. Check out our offerings for experienced artists and beginners alike:

 

Wheel Throwing Boot Camp (3 Days)
Instructor: Lisette Bedoya
January 2–4, 10:30 AM–1:30 PM
January 2–4, 5:30–8:30 PM
Don’t let those throwing skills get rusty! Come enjoy 3-days of throwing and consecutive studio time during our long winter break! We’ll explore mug making, wet altering, and surface design! Open studio time will be available in between sessions for students who wish to continue working (regular open studio fees will apply).

Oil Painting 101
Instructor: Andrea Gianchiglia
January 2, 10 AM–4 PM
Ever wanted to try oil painting? Now is the time! This workshop will introduce you to the wonderful world of oil paints. With step-by-step guided lessons through the course of the day, students will understand how oil paints can be used, focusing on various techniques, color theory, how to achieve various subject matters and textures, and proper cleanup. Materials will be provided so students can try before they commit to a new medium. It’s a perfect workshop for any level artist looking to dive into this new medium.

Pastels 101
Instructor: Andrea Gianchiglia
January 3, 10 AM–4 PM
Have you ever wanted to try pastels? Now is the time! This workshop will introduce you to the wonderful world of pastels. With step-by-step guided lessons through the course of the day, students will understand how pastels work and can be used. There will be a focus on various techniques, color theory, how to achieve various subject matters and textures, info on various paper surfaces, and brands of pastels. Materials will be provided so students can try before they commit to a new medium. A perfect workshop for any artist looking to try something new.

Winter Break: Everything I Know About Painting Landscapes
Instructor: Mark Saenger
January 2–4, 10 AM–2 PM
Dive into painting in this informative class where you will learn fundamentals and work from landscape photos or still-life setups. Through engaging lectures and demonstrations, learn about value, drawing, atmosphere, color mixing, composition, and creating dynamic light effects. Gain confidence with skills acquired in this class.

Winter Break: Expressive Figure Drawing with Line & Wash
Instructor: Joel Tidey
January 2–4, 10 AM–4 PM
Experiment with water-soluble graphite (similar to watercolor painting) in this special three-day intensive. Students will work from a live model using line and wash to represent the figure. Gain confidence by learning to see form more simply through a painterly expression. Demonstrations will be given along with various life drawing techniques. Artists will improve their skills of observation to create fun and expressive works of art. This class will cover a variety of poses from gestures and beyond.
