Winter Break Workshops for Kids, Tweens & Teens

Calling all creative kids, tweens, and teens. The Art Center is running winter workshops for aspiring artists ages 5–9, 10–12,  and 13–17 the last week of December (December 26–28)! Each session features an art project inspired by the winter season, using a variety of art media and techniques. Sign up for just a morning or afternoon workshop, or pack a lunch and spend the day at the Art Center! All materials provided. Check below for all our offerings:

Winter Wonderland Snowmen (ages 5-9)
Wednesday, December 26, 10 AM–12 PM
Kids will use model magic and other art materials to create 3D snowmen, friends, and other characters inside a wintry environment.

Northern Lights in the Tree Tops (ages 5-9)
Wednesday, December 26, 1–3 PM
Create a mixed media painting using watercolor, pastel and acrylic to depict the Northern Lights behind a forest with snow dusting the treetops and the ground below!

Cozy Penguin Paper Collage (ages 5-9)
Thursday, December 27, 10 AM–12 PM
Learn fun paper collaging techniques and tips in this workshop, where kids will create an artistic bundled up penguin collage.

Fish Swimming in Frozen Pond (ages 5-9)
Thursday, December 27, 1–3 PM
Using various types of layered cut paper, markers and glue, imagine looking through the cracking ice to see the creatures of the deep swimming down below.

Holiday Lights in Pastel (ages 5-9)
Friday, December 28, 10 AM–12 PM
Explore how to draw and paint with chalk pastels while creating a vibrant holiday scene.

Igloo Paper Sculpture on an Iceberg (ages 5-9)
Friday, December 28, 1–3 PM
Make an invincible three-dimensional Igloo that will last through any season from just paper and glue, then decorate it and our iceberg with markers and colored pencils to make it feel like home.

Impressionist Ripped Paper Mountain Scene (ages 10-12)
Wednesday, December 26, 10 AM–12 PM
Using ripped, pinched and glued paper of many varieties, create an impressionist snowy mountain scene with tons of texture and color.

Holiday Ornaments (ages 10-12)
Wednesday, December 26, 1–3 PM
Tweens will experiment with oil pastel and watercolor paints to create festive ornaments. Hang them on a tree or display them as fun decorations!

Wire Sculpture Ornaments (ages 10-12)
Thursday, December 27, 10 AM–12 PM
Create winter themed sculptures using wire and learn techniques to create 3D shapes with continuous line drawings! Great to hang in front of windows, walls, or even on a tree!

Snow Globe Collage (ages 10-12)
Thursday, December 27, 1–3 PM
This workshop will cover techniques and tips for collaging, and tweens will create unique snow globe inspired collages.

Pom-Pom Penguins and Polar Bears (ages 10-12)
Friday, December 28, 10 AM–12 PM
Learn how to make your own pom-poms and use them to create wintery creatures like penguins and polar bears or something fuzzy from your imagination!

Winter Self-Portraits (ages 10-12)
Friday, December 28, 1–3 PM
It’s time to bundle up! Tweens will create self-portraits showcasing the many layers of winter gear and accessories, using Sharpie makers and colored pencils.

3D Marbled Snowflakes (ages 13-17)
Thursday, December 27, 1–3 PM
Learn to make your own DIY marbled paper, then cut, twist and fold the paper into a flurry of stunning 3D snowflakes.

DIY Mixed Media Garland (ages 13-17)
Friday, December 28, 1–3 PM
Experiment with a variety of mixed-media art techniques, including wax resist, painting, and fiber art, to create a one-of-a-kind garland, perfect for decorating your space.
