The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey’s Community Engagement Programs are closely aligned with our mission of bringing art and people together and our commitment to making art accessible to all audiences. These programs make educational visual arts experiences available to under-served, economically disadvantaged and marginalized audiences. These audiences include at-risk youth, the elderly, persons with disabilities, children from dual-working parent households, children from diverse populations and individuals from low-income households. We serve the community of Summit and surrounding areas including people living in Hudson, Union, Essex, Sussex and Somerset Counties.
AFTER SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAMS
Created in partnership with several schools in the area, VACnj sends our teaching artists out to lead various after school programs. The program content ranges from the fundamentals of drawing and painting, an after school comic book program and an art making with art history education program that focuses on an understanding of history and contemporary art.
