Learn the ancient art of granulation—fusing tiny spheres of metal onto a backsheet to create interesting patterns. In this workshop you will explore the 3,000-year-old history of this fascinating technique, create granules in various sizes, prepare backsheet metal and make organic glue for adhering granules. Students will also learn to arrange granules into geometric and organic designs. Demonstrations on fusing granules to backsheet will be given. Students will create small-scale earrings with their granulated designs by beginning with fine silver and move into 22k gold (optional). This workshop is intended for students with torch experience.

Students will create unique beads by melting glass rods with a hand-held torch and learn how to decorate them by incorporating special design techniques, such as silver foil, to personalize their beads. Start simple and get elaborate—by the second day you will be hooked! All materials included. Limited to 8 students.

Learn the intriguing ancient art of chain making with the loop-in-loop technique. In this workshop you will explore the history of this fascinating technique, create and fuse fine silver loops without solder, weave loops together to create single, double, and two-way-double loop-in-loop chain styles and create basic clasps appropriate to each style of chain. Students will also learn relationships between wire gauge and dowel size. Instruction for the side-weave and sailor’s loop styles will be optional. Students may begin with fine silver and move into 22k gold (optional). All materials included.
