This two day intensive workshop will focus on teaching the techniques of creating jewelry using wax carving and construction methods. Wax is a very versatile medium and allows the artist to create fluid, intricate, sculpturally exciting works. Once the wax model is completed, the piece will be cast into silver or gold and finished. All tools and materials included.

Participants will begin by knotting with hemp and larger beads and will then move to knotting in silk when comfortable with the methodology. Learn the intriguing ancient art of chain making with the loop-in-loop technique. In this workshop you will explore the history of this fascinating technique, create and fuse fine silver loops without solder, weave loops together to create single, double, and two-way-double loop-in-loop chain styles and create basic clasps appropriate to each style of chain. Students will also learn relationships between wire gauge and dowel size. Instruction for the side-weave and sailor’s loop styles will be optional. Students may begin with fine silver and move into 22k gold (optional). All materials included.

Precious Metal Clay is made of tiny fine silver particles mixed with a binder to form a clay-like consistency. It can be manipulated and formed just like clay. It is then fired in a kiln, where the binder burns away, leaving a piece of hard, 99.9% fine silver. In this workshop, you will learn how to shape, texture and carve metal clay using simple tools. Demonstration and discussion for beginner level project. All materials included.
