This workshop is perfect for photographers and artists who are ready to move beyond the creation of representational images. We will study the relationship between painting and photography, and review the artwork of abstract artists in order to understand how the two mediums have influenced each other over the past century. We will think about color, texture, qualities of light, minimalism, and so much more! We will also study current trends in contemporary photography, and address how individual students can use existing concepts to create artwork in new abstract ways. Students are encouraged to bring in a portfolio of images, abstract or not, for review and discussion.

Now that Polaroid®, long the standard for creating image transfers, is no longer available, digital artists have explored and developed a variety of new transfer techniques. In this class, you will learn to prepare and transfer images to waterleaf paper. Create a stand alone one-of-a-kind piece of art or part of a creative piece in printmaking or collage. We will print to prepared inkjet carrier sheets as well as learn to make our own substrates for transfer. This hands-on workshop will consist of printing and transferring your images along with altering the images with a variety of tools, brushes and pencils prior to and post transfer. Basic knowledge of Photoshop® and experience using an inkjet printer is necessary. Bring a variety of images on a USB drive and small prints for viewing.

Please read our Studio School Policies before registering for a class or workshop.
