This workshop offers an approach that stresses the tonal aspects of any given image. Any linear aspects of working in this technique will occur only at the juncture of positive and negative space varying in intensity as per contrasting values. A class introduction will consist of a brief history of the instructor’s experience in what led him to develop this technique, and discussion of artists who have departed from traditional methods. The weave of the canvas brings form to atmosphere rendering all elements uniformly, as if they had a common substructure, similar in effect to pointillism. This approach will demonstrate the significance in personalizing one’s materials and methods to best suit and enhance individual aesthetic sensibility. Students may choose to work from photographic sources or from still life.
