Drawing is an extremely rewarding and challenging activity that requires a logical sequence of drawing principals. This course will cover the most important aspect of drawing: How to observe three dimensional forms. Learning how to block in a drawing will be a key factor in the success of a drawing. A focus will be placed on studies to increase our skills. The goal of this course is to expand on the artist’s natural ability through fundamental skills and practice. We will sketch from various still life set ups. Artists may also bring in objects of interest to sketch from. This is a course for all levels and each artist will be taught according to their skill level.

This workshop is intended for those who wish to explore ways of creating and illustrating their own invented worlds through portraiture. Each participant will create a portrait following the same conceptual approach that Peppito applies to her “connected portraits.” Finding inspiration through observation, source materials, and self-reflection, participants will learn how to create a composition with line, pattern, texture, and spatial relationships using mark making, drawing, sewing and collage techniques. Students are asked to bring at least ten objects including sentimental items (a baby tooth, seashell from your honeymoon, ticket stub from a concert), everyday items (a pill you take every day, tool you use frequently, scrap of fabric you like) and images that are no bigger than the size of their hand to inspire the creation of their own invented world portrait.
This Master Workshop held is in conjunction with Art Center’s Exhibition, Frohawk Two Feathers: You Can Fall.
