Artists have long been intrigued with this popular medium for the speed, spontaneity, and the open, free quality it offers. In brief, a monoprint is a method by which an image is created on a plate (such as Plexiglas), and then transferred onto paper using a press. Many textures can be used to enhance the image. Limited editions or unique one-of-a kind prints can be created with the use of rich and colorful inks. The options are varied and endless. Luminous fluid brush strokes and delicate markings offer the elements of surprise. In addition to the monoprint, relief printing and image transfers will be introduced. Everyone works on individual projects in a supportive and informal class environment. All levels are welcome. The student will receive individual attention to help obtain the envisioned image. Attendance at the first class is strongly advised.

Many of the world’s master painters have used the photograph as a visual record and inspiration for new developments in painting. The photo is a great model to inspire creation. The student will not duplicate the photo but rather interpret it. Cropping and proportional experimentation allow the artist to achieve a painting of a similar or different sensibility. The photo can be personal, travel related or from the media. Individual instruction and class discussion create a warm and supportive atmosphere.

Figure drawing is an extremely rewarding and challenging activity. Because our poses are short, we will be able to focus on how to initiate a figure drawing, through basic structuring. Repetition and practice are key elements in expressing yourself with confidence. This course familiarizes students with basic anatomy to better understand the figure. The goal of this course is to simplify the complex nature of drawing the human form. Materials list available online.
