Internships
The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey offers an Arts Internship opportunity for students interested in gaining hands-on experience with an accredited arts organization. The Art Center is a dynamic and collaborative institution where departments are constantly working together to achieve our mission of bringing art and people together. This unique internship allows students to work in a variety of departments including Programs, Exhibitions, and Special Events. Interns will be working with our staff as well as interacting with artists, art instructors, volunteers, trustees, and other arts-oriented professionals. This internship will provide students with a broad understanding of how an art institution functions.
Responsibilities might include assisting with exhibition preparation for our four on-site gallery spaces and our two off-site gallery spaces, assisting with public programs including the popular Thursday Evening Salon Series, helping to coordinate professional development programs including our annual Teachers’ Symposium, helping to plan exhibition opening receptions, providing support for our state of the art Studio School which includes ceramics, printmaking, digital photography, and jewelry making, and participating in fundraising events such as our For Art’s Sake Weekend.
Applicants must have excellent writing and communication skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Knowledge of or passion for the visual arts preferred. Essential computer skills include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
To apply for the Arts Internship, please submit the application form, along with a resume. Mail application to:
Cara Bramson, Programs Manager
Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, 68 Elm Street, Summit, NJ 07901
